Excessive Sweating
Excessive Sweating Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis, hyperhidrosis): Pathological
overactive sweat glands, especially on palms, feet and armpits. As an independent disorder
excessive sweating occurs in 5% of the population, particularly in relation to stress
situations. Often, it also occurs as a side effect of obesity and general illness or a
side effect of medications.
Facebook: Excessive sweating that is
- either locally (eg in the hands or armpits or experiencing the whole body
- Moist feel, the smell of sweat and wet spots on clothing
- If sweating in the hand usually cool, maybe even white-bluish palms.
The disease is sweating and if the metabolism is stimulated, for example in sports, in
high temperatures or in stressful situations. If the production of sweat, however, has
stimulated the smallest rise, there is an abnormal and requiring treatment events.
The smell of sweat on the skin caused by living bacteria that decompose the organic
components of the truly odorless sweat. For durable sweat overproduction increases the
number of odor-causing bacteria. Repeated sweat also differs on the skin and increases
susceptibility to eczema, chronic-toxic, for example, contact dermatitis, and infections.
The symptoms can affect the entire body (generalized hyperhidrosis) or individual parts of
the body such as armpits, hands, feet, thighs or head (localized hyperhidrosis). Excessive
sweating without known cause is often already in puberty. Spontaneously or triggered by
nervousness, stress, or minor physical exertion leads to real sweating - up to visible
droplets of the palms. In severe cases, generalized hyperhidrosis, a significant
psychological burden is dar. Fearing sweat stains, many unpleasant body odor or the need
to wet hand in greeting to attract many of those affected are back from social life.
In old age we find excessive sweating often resulting in severe obesity, and under certain
underlying medical conditions such as hyperthyroidism, Parkinson's disease or a chronic
infection. Seizure-sweats are hot flashes in the form of a typical and common complaint
during menopause. In rare cases, they provide an indication of hormonal disorders, such as
a pheochromocytoma. When excessive sweating occurs mostly at night, can be a big feather
bed or a too high room temperature, but also a systemic disease of the cause. Thus, there
is typically some night sweats, rheumatic diseases, tuberculosis or lymphoma.

The doctor may initially clarify whether the increased sweat production
occurs in the context of therapy of an underlying disease. Can not determine the cause or
treatment, there are several options to choose from to reduce the sweating to:
Tablets, for example, with the active ingredient in Methantheliniumbromid tablets which
are able to reduce sweating all over the body to a limited extent, but are little used due
to significant side effects.
Affected only the palms or soles of the feet is often a light current therapy
(iontophoresis, even IONTOPHORESIS) successful. The patient appears several times a week
hands or feet into a saline water bath, is headed by the current (10-15 mA).
Treatment of axillary sweat are reinforced with highly diluted botulinum toxin injections,
see also antioxidants. An occasional repetition is necessary, but not before half a year
later.
Is concerned, only the axillary region, including the possibility exists for
Hyperhidrosis) ( which can be performed in an outpatient.
The sympathectomy (endoscopic transthoracic sympathectomy, ETS): Surgical transection of
the sympathetic trunk in the thoracic spine) helps if mostly the face, shoulders and / or
hands are affected. This minimally invasive procedure is performed under general
anesthesia and relieve the symptoms significantly. As a complication-wide procedures,
however, it remains limited to cases that can not be treated differently. The most common
complication is compensatory sweating in other skin areas such as back, abdomen or step,
which occurs in up to 85% of cases.
Self-treatment in normal sweating help to individual body regions most commercially
available cosmetic products (eg, roll-on deodorants, body sprays) or special foot care
products such as foot powders, sprays or similar. Deodoranzien with agents such as
chlorhexidine or triclosan counteract the bacterial decomposition of perspiration and thus
to reduce the unpleasant odor. Antitranspiranzien with aluminum salts, however, inhibit
the production of sweat. Experience can be the odors by parfümhaltige deodorants good
deal. Too aggressively, you should not operate according to local therapy, however, since
otherwise the normal skin flora is damaged.
Not sufficient for commercial products that are in the pharmacy preparations with ALCL, or
tannins available. To treat excessive underarm sweat has proven a 5 - to 20% aluminum
chloride solution, the application eventually leads to the reduction of the sweat glands.
The armpits are first day, then two to three times per week treatment, with the best
solution is applied using spray. Initially there may be slight skin irritation, but the
reaction usually again.

Suggestions for dealing with hot flashes (under "self-help")
For prevention of increased sweat production is recommended to wear breathable fabrics
such as cotton . Clothing worn by the layering principle allowing rapid adaptation to the
heat requirement. Who suffers from strong-smelling armpit sweat, often benefits from an
armpit hair: On the smooth skin accumulate less odor-forming bacteria.
Periodic alternating showers and endurance train the body to better deal with sweaty
stimuli. Because caffeine may increase, alcohol, hot spices and sumptuous meals, sweat
production, it's worth an attempt to dispense with this trigger. Overweight people often
lose their increased perspiration, when they normalize their weight.
Complementary affected are often in a kind of vicious circle: you are sweating so
unpleasant that they begin to sweat for fear of even more. In the complementary stands
next to the actual "sweat control" therefore, the clarification of psychological
factors in the foreground.
Hydrotherapy (details). Recommended envelopes with cold water, which are changed every 5
minutes. Against sweaty feet a foot bath with sage or tomato juice (0.5 l juice to 5
liters of water).

Acupuncture. There are positive reviews that acupuncture relieves an increased
perspiration, and here is probably also the relaxing effect not negligible.
Psychotherapy and relaxation techniques (for further details). The first step is to
observe their own behavior, and - for example in the form of a diary to document - which
occur frequently in what situations, the sweats. The next step is to learn those affected
by behavioral measures, or in a cognitive behavioral therapy to strengthen their
self-esteem, become less quickly out of balance and reduce anticipatory anxiety gradually,
eg by learning relaxation techniques or breathing techniques.
